<strong>Contradictions w/ Vikki Armstrong</strong><br /><br />One of the mainstays of Hands Four’s dance schedule, our annual contra dance and dessert potluck with the Contradictions can turn the most bitterly cold evening into one of the greatest warmth and conviviality. This will be our ninth such event at the Women’s Community Building—and, alas, the last one in this space, as the building’s soon to be torn down to make way for a housing project. So come out and celebrate with us in this space one last time!<br /><br />The Contradictions—Laurie Hart and Rick Manning on fiddle, Rick on mandolin, Tom Hodgson on guitar, and Dave Davies on bass—combines the extraordinary talents of four great musicians coming to contra dance from a variety of other traditions. The happy result is that their lively jigs and reels from New England, Ireland, and Canada are often inflected by—and sometimes give over entirely to—the sounds of hot swing, slick bluegrass, and even an occasional Venezuelan waltz. <br /><br />Leading the called dances from 7:30 to 10:30 (preceded by a beginners’ workshop at 7:00) will be Vikki Armstrong, a seasoned caller with an easy and gracious manner. After the called dances, we’ll enjoy an hour of couples dances and socializing over a banquet of yummy desserts and treats.<br />
